Review – A Thing of Beauty

Review – A Thing of Beauty

I recently discovered Emily Conrad, a Christian author, while perusing the interwebs for things to read and authors to follow. I liked her honest energy and the inspiration that she provides on her blog, so I decided to subscribe to keep updated on what she’s up to. I was also interested in the short story, A Thing of Beauty, that you get free when you subscribe. I never thought of myself as much of a short story person (if it’s not a hundred pages in my hand, I don’t know what to do with it), but I really enjoyed this beautiful tale of Naomi, a young woman trying to balance what she knows God says about beauty and what she sees of it in her interactions with her snob of a model sister and her relationship with boyfriend Emmerich. It’s a heart-felt story, showing the struggle one can have embracing the true beauty of unselfish love while battling the world’s vision that what is lovely is skin deep. The story telling was simple yet powerful, and the emotional range was definitely there.
